Four police officers attached to Paidha Police station have been detained over the shooting on Monday in Paidha town council.

They include cadet ASP Julius Commander, Steve Lubakwesa, officer in charge of child and family protection unit Lillian Dravuru and Tadeo Cwianyai.

The officers were falsely tipped off by one Derrick Balinda who claimed that his was attacked by thugs at Mission Road village in Paidha town which forced the officers to swing into action.

In order to disperse the rowdy crowd, the officers reportedly fired live bullets resulting in the killing of Shamim Candiru and injuring one Julius Odubi who is admitted in a critical condition at Nyapea hospital. Earlier reports had indicated that Odubi had passed on.

The police spokesperson north western region Josephine Angucia said the officers were armed with AK47 riffles.
