Zombo Police investigate their own over murder

Police in Zombo district have launched an investigation into circumstances under which a police officer is alleged to have shot two people dead on Monday.

The incident happened at about 5:30am at Oturugang village, in Paidha Town council, after a scuffle broke out between the police and suspected goons who were terrorizing locals while returning from a nearby discotheque.

The dead have been identified as Shamin Candiru, 23, a resident of Ovuruhindi village, but hails from Yumbe district and the other who passed on at Nyapea Hospital after he was rushed there for treatment has been identified as Julius Odubi, a resident of Paidha Town.

Fred Abila, the officer In-charge at Paidha police station, said they are investigating how the two met their fate.

Josephine Angucia, the West Nile region police spokesperson also confirmed the development, but could not divulge further details of the incident.

John Nsube, the Zombo district Resident District Commissioner, said they are considering summoning the officer who carried out the shooting.
