Mangat wins Gorilla in the Mist Rally

The crew of Jas Mangat and Joseph Kamya powered their Mitsubishi EvoX aka 'The Beast' to victory in the Gorilla in the Mist Rally on Sunday.

Mangat, who opened the event by winning Day One of the rally in Kabale on Saturday, kept the pace on Day Two, sealing the win after posting a time of two hours, 15 minutes and 43 seconds (2:15:43) followed by Duncan Mubiru Kikankane (EvoX) who posted two hours, 21 minutes and 15 seconds(2:21:15) in a tightly contested nine sections of the event.

The Shell Helix-sponsored crew of Arthur Blick Jr and Unisan Bakunda in Subaru N10 pro-drive finished third with a time of two hours 25, minutes and 58 seconds (2:25:58).

He was followed by Hassan Alwi (Subaru N14) and the crew of Ronald Ssebuguzi in a Mitsubishi EvoX in the fourth and fifth position respectively.

Mangat after the event said that the roads had no traffic, which helped them concentrate on the technical matters other than focusing on the other obstacles.

"It was such a competitive and safe event that we only had to concentrate on technical matters on the roads and I am happy that I won the event on home turf," Mangat told New Vision after the event.

Christakis Fitidis, Omar Mayanja, Desh Kananura (EvoX) dropped out of the event on Day One while Fred Wapamba and Rauf Adam rolled off the road the same day.
