The people of Rwenzori region will on Saturday gather at Kasese Square for special reconciliation prayers.

New Vision has learnt that the prayers will be attended by the King of Rwenzururu Charles Wesley Mumbere and his counterpart Martin Ayongi Kamya the cultural leader of the Obundhingiya bwa Bwamba.

Subjects of the two cultural leaders have been clashing with each another in the last two months resulting into a bloodbath in the region.

The MP for Bukonjo County East, Bwambale Bihande told New Vision that the special prayers are intended to seek God's intervention to put an end to the bloodbath.

The post-election violence and tribal clashes hit the region beginning February and has left close to 30 people including security and royal guards of the Rwenzururu.

Bihande said religious leaders from different religious groups including bishops will grace the prayers. MPs from the region reportedly spearheaded the push for the prayers.
