Top seed Michael Kawooya, Ian Rukunya and Paul Kadoma breezed into the quarterfinals of the Kabaka Birth Day Squash tournament after posting wins on Tuesday.

Kawooya made a big headway after beating Abraham Matovu 3-0 before beating Buganda deputy Katikiro Appolo Makubuya also 3-0.

Seed two Ian Rukunya also remained in contention after seeing off Mulungi Seruwo 3-0 while seed three Paul Kadoma saw off Henry Kamuntu also 3-0.

However seed five Samuel Kyagulanyi fired a warning shot to the big guns after beating Rwanda's top seed Christain Habimana 3-0.

The Nile Special sponsored weeklong event that got underway on Monday at Kampala Club with a record entry of 94 participants marks the Kakaba's 61st birth day.

To Kawooya, the event offers him an opportunity to prove himself in the field. "It is an exciting but tough tournament. But I am would like to compose myself and work hard. I look forward to better results," said Kawooya who is likely to face off with Kadoma in the semi-final today.

The Kampala Club king pin was waiting to take on the winner between Victor Walusimbi and Charles Mulindwa.
