Uganda Power lifter Roy Mubiru is targeting another medal when he competes in the Powerlifting Summer showdown in Atlanta, June 11-12.
The 39 year old South African based athlete who was in the country recently is looking to better his 2014 Lump of Coal-Push and Pull contest performance where he benched 285kgs and deadlifted 465kgs for a total of 750kgs.
"I have to return to South Africa now to finalise with preparations. There is also the Arnold Classic on May 26 in Sutton, South Africa but I will skip that event to concentrate on the other one which is bigger," Mubiu said.
"But Arnold Schwarzenegger will be at his show in South Africa and I to try lure him to visit Uganda as well so that we can boost the sport in the country," Mubiru noted.
Over the years, Mubiru has represented the country in several events like the Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival, Musclemania and the Strongest Man on Earth competitions.
In 2011 he won gold at the Musclemania event in the US and has since helped to establish the Uganda PowerLifting Association which holds the RM Powerlifting Championship every October.
"We are going to invite lifters from around East Africa at this year's championship in October to gauge ourselves against them as a way of growing the sport," Mubiru stated.
