NIC's skipper Martha Soigi is hopeful her side will make it past the group stages of the East and Central Africa Netball Club Championship that started in Kampala over the weekend.

Soigi was celebrating with her teammates their opening victory over fellow local side Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) 60-36 at Lugogo.

She added, "I missed the previous edition of the regional event and because of this I cannot weigh Uhamiaji's performance but for the other local teams in our group, am sure we shall beat them."

"We just need to win another game and stay assured of being among the top teams on the table," Soigi said.

To emerge victorious, NIC's goal attacker (GA) Rachael Nanyonga scored 27 goals, Goal attacker (GA) Soigi added 26 goals while (GA) Barbra Namukaya who was substituted in the fourth quarter added seven goals to the insurance score sheet.

While Carol Draziko and Irene Eyaru scored KCCA's consolation goals.

The win put NIC top of the Pool B table with 3 points. They have also been pitted against others Immigration Services Department of Tanzania (Uhamaiji) and UPDF in a pool of four teams.

In Pool A, students side UCU beat Police 43-40 in their opening encounter. They are now scheduled to play against regional champions Ministry of Information Communications and Technology (MOICT) and Prisons.
