Three people have so far been arrested

SOROTI- Hardly a month after a deadly shooting at shooters pub in the heart of Soroti town involving a UPDF officer who shot three people dead injuring six others, another shooting at the same spot occurred last evening this time involving a police officer.

The 5:00pm incident was executed by a police officer only identified as Wagolo who accidentally shot a suspected thief identified as Ali Zikuzoka as he was rescuing him (Zikuzoka) from a mob who wanted to lynch him.

The locals suspected Zikuzoka, a resident of Kichinjaji in Soroti municipality to have been involved in a robbery at Avis electrical appliance shop which is few meters away from shooters pub.

Juma Hassan Nyene, the police spokesman Kyoga East, says the shooting was not intentional. He explains that during police investigations, three people were arrested and taken for interrogation. They revealed that Zikusoka was part of their team involved in robbery.

"We regret what happened but that will not stop us from prosecuting him in courts of law once he recovers," Nyene said. The three suspected thieves who are in police custody include Julius Okello, Robert Ekabu and Zadak Suliaman.

Commenting about the continued closure of Shooters bar, Da spot, Savanna and Liberty bars, Nyene said the bars shall be opened once the proprietors of these places comply with security and health regulations.

These happening places are required to have their own security and urinals to avoid drunkards from littering the area.

"We are still engaging the stakeholders and the proprietors once they meet all the regulations we shall allow them to open. That place is supposed to be residential but it was turned into bars," Nyene said.
