Okapel High strike: Headmaster steps down

Okapel High School was on Monday closed after students held a strike protesting the transfer of their teachers

The head teacher Okapel High School in Kapir Sub County in Ngora district has been advised to step aside and his deputy takes over the running of the school.

A joint Board of Governors and PTA meeting held at the school ground on Tuesday came up with this resolution that Alfonse Alumu hands over the school to his deputy head teacher Simon Okiiru.

Okapel High School was on Monday closed after students held a strike protesting the transfer of their teachers.

Vigil Okurut the board chairman said the meeting also resolved to have the school re-opened on Wednesday.

The Ngora district inspector of schools Geoffrey Milton Okuna said the school was closed after students became rowdy and demanded the headmaster leave.

The chairman LC3 Kapir Sub County Bonnie Ochen appealed to students to turn up in big numbers ready for studies.

According to a senior woman teacher Petua Ademun who is the representative of teachers, they are ready to teach.

Alumu accepted to step aside saying he was appointed by the ministry of education and sports and he wants a termination letter from the ministry.
