The Association for Rehabilitation and Re-Orientation of Women for Development (TERREWODE) east-north office Soroti has donated fistula repair module to Soroti regional referral hospital, an aid from Direct relief international.
These repair module containing medication drugs and equipment were ON Thursday delivered to hospital by David Amudu, the executive body member and Stella Apio, the east-north manager TERREWODE.
Amudu says their purpose is to help the fistula patients who have the difficulty in accessing the medication and given the fact that there are many young women in Teso who are silently suffering from fistula.
According to Amudu, the assistance is expected to help at least a total of 200 fistula patients across Teso sub region.
He adds that the same assistance has already been extended to Mbale regional hospital and Mulago referral national hospital.
He encourages women to come out openly to the doctors and get treatment since it is a free service.
Meanwhile, Annet Ajuro the assistant stores manager while receiving the assistance on behalf of the hospital administration said they are still faced with the shortage of fistula repair module due the overwhelming number of fistula patients.
She says Soroti referral hospital gets at least 4-6 fistula patients a week.
Ajuro urges the other development partners to emulate what TERREWODE is doing in helping the women.
Dr Fred Kirya, a fistula surgeon at Soroti referral hospital was not available by press time for a comment since he was carrying out an operation.
