Catholic charity to host medical camp for the elderly poor

Saint Paul's Family, a local movement of lay-Catholics involved in outreach programmes, relief and spiritual nourishment activities has received sh2,650,000 to finance a medical camp for the elderly poor, due on May 18 at Saint Paul's Family Centre for the Aged in Bwenkoma, Mbarara.
The day-long medical camp will be one of the activities for the celebrations of the 33rd anniversary of the organisation.
The latest boost was received from Spedag Interfreight, a Kampala private logistics company,
Handing over to the cheque to members of Saint Paul's Family yesterday, Spedag's Legal and Human Resource Manager, Juliet Kyembabazi said,
"As Spedag Interfreight, we considered it right and just to make a financial donation towards the medical camp for the elderly poor because it is a genuine social activity, which also fits well in our corporate social responsibility policy and also, our logistics business."
The Company's Head of Administration, Sandra Kobusingye also said: "In Uganda categories like the youths are given better attention than the elderly, who despite being a minority group, played a crucial role in the making and development of our country. Uganda is what it is because of these old people. This is why we decided to partner with our brethren of St. Paul's Family, in their noble project for our elderly citizens."
The National Chairman of Saint Paul's Family, Moses Kyaligonza said also said that many elderly people were dying from treatable diseases because of poverty, which was why they had come up with the idea of the medical camp, as one of the activities for their 33rd anniversary celebrations week, which will run from May 16 to May 21.
Saint Paul's family was founded by on May 16, 1983 by Jairus Ndema. The ecclesial organization has branches at Saint Matia Muiumba Catholic Church, Old Kampala and St. Kizito parish Nattyole, further to running a Centre for the Aged in Bwenkoma, Mbarara.
