Akankwatsa is accusing Kyosimiire, who runs a private clinic in Nyamityobora, of stealing her baby boy.

A row has erupted between two women in Mbarara district over the motherhood of a one-year-old baby.

Judith Kyosimiire and Phionah Akakwantsa, formerly friends, are embroiled in a fight over the child.

Akankwatsa is accusing Kyosimiire, who runs a private clinic in Nyamityobora, of stealing her baby boy.

At Mbarara Central Police, Akakwatsa told police she gave birth to the boy from one of the clinics in Mbarara town, with Kyosimiire as her caretaker.

The latter then reportedly abandoned the wiped-out mother who was resting off the labour exhaustion.

Kyosimiire then allegedly disappeared with the newborn. Later, she reportedly told Akankwatsa that the baby had died and that she had buried it.

Kyosimiire has since been arrested from her clinic, but she insists the baby is hers, adding that she too gave birth days after Akankwatsa's delivery.

So who is the true mother of the child in the middle of the controversy?

Taban Chiriga, the Mbarara district police officer-in-charge of investigations, says they are to have a DNA test to establish the true mother of the baby.
