Lido beach boss died of prostate cancer

Muwanguzi died of prostate cancer and not any other disease. I don’t want to hear people saying he was bewitched. We tried to treat it but it was too late, so he died - Dr. Kigonya

Samson Muwanguzi, the Entebbe Lido beach proprietor, died of prostate cancer, according to Dr. Edward Kigonya, a senior medical consultant at Nsambya hospital, Kampala.

Aged 65, Muwanguzi, a city lawyer and businessman, died on Saturday last week at Nsambya hospital, and was buried on Tuesday at his ancestral home in Komamboga along Gayaza Road, Wakiso district.

"Muwanguzi died of prostate cancer and not any other disease. I don't want to hear people saying he was bewitched. We tried to treat it but it was too late, so he died," said Dr. Kigonya.

In his medical report to the hundreds of mourners in Komamboga, Dr. Kigonya noted that prostate cancer among men has increased especially between men aged 45 and 50 years.

"I want to appeal to fellow men to always go for cancer screening, the women get cervical cancer and for us we men it is prostate cancer," explained Dr. Kigonya.

In order to save Muwanguzi's life, Dr. Kigonya noted Muwanguzi was flown to South Africa for specialized treatment, but it was too late.

During the funeral service, the business community, family friends, religious leaders, educationists and the family, described Muwanguzi as an entrepreneur, generous, disciplinarian, mentor and a loving family man.

"I have known Muwanguzi for 47 years, he was my best friend. He was an exceptional character; he was an entrepreneur and a very strict but loving father," said businessman Mohan Kiwanuka, the husband to former finance minister Maria Kiwanuka.

Despite his private lifestyle, mourners described Muwanguzi as social person, who impacted on different people's lives, socially, morally and economically.

Eulogizing the deceased, Samuel Bbengo, the maternal uncle to Muwanguzi said: "we have lost a great son. He was so helpful and kind hearted".

Dr. John Kalema, who was his bestman, described the deceased as professional, private and ashy public person, who impacted on his community and the country through his business and education skills.

"He was a very professional man who never liked showing off, he loved working and mentoring others," said Dr. Kalema.

Speaking on behalf of his siblings, Mark Muwanguzi remembered their father as a loving Daddy who sacrificed a lot for his family.

"Daddy set a good example for us; he put a lot of effort in whatever he was doing, like he was working for God. It is this effort that made him asucceful man," said Mark Muwanguzi.

Before his death, Muwanguzi Served as the board chairman Crane bank, chairman gold star insurance, and secretary to the former prime minister and vice president Samson Kisekka among other roles.

By the time of his death, he was the board chairman Kampala parent's school, owned by the Ruparellia group.

In her eulogy, through her elder brother John Ssevume, Christine Muwanguzi, the widow to the deceased, remembered her husband as a loving man.
