FDC official arrested in Rukungiri

According to his uncle, William Tindiwensi, Tweyambe was picked by police at about 11:00am on Saturday.

Police have arrested a Forum for Democratic Change task force, Darius Tweyambe.

According to his uncle, William Tindiwensi, Tweyambe was picked by police at about 11:00am on Saturday from his shop at Virunga and taken to Ntungamo police station.

Tindiwensi said Tweyambe was head of election taskforce for the FDC in Rukungiri district and by the time of his arrest, he was organising campaign rallies in the sub-counties of Kebisoni, Buhunga, Ruhinda and Nyakagyeme to campaign for FDC candidates in those sub-counties.

The elections for sub-county, division chairpersons and their councilors are scheduled to take place on 9th March 2016.

According to sources from Rukungiri police station, Tweyambe was taken to Ntungamo police station where he will be picked by security agents from Kampala.

"We don't have Tweyambe here, we got an order from Kampala to arrest him  and I hope he is now in the hands of our bosses," One police officer who did not want to be named told the press.

The OCCID Micheal Ogwal and the DPC Ronald Wotwali were not at the station for a comment and their mobile phones were switched.

This is second time Tweyambe is being arrested.

In 2004, he was picked by plain clothed security personnel from Makerere University where he had enrolled for a masters'degree in business administration and was charged with treason and murder until 2007 when he won the case after the state failed to pin him on those charges.

Other sources said that his arrest was connected with the stories that he has been posting on social media since 18th February general elections.

Tweyambe recently posted on Facebook that he was being hunted and threatened on phone over the statements he was posting on the social media.
