Woman charged for defaming priest she accused of harassment

Nantongo was charged alongside Delta TV station manager Semei Wesaali and both pleaded not guilty to the charges before being released on bail

A woman has been charged in court for making defamatory statements against Fr. Jacinto Kibuuka the Munyonyo Parish Priest.

Winfred Nantongo a student at Kyambogo University was been charged at Buganda Road Court with alleged defamation and giving false information to a police officer. 
 
Nantongo was charged alongside Delta TV station manager Semei Wesaali and both pleaded not guilty to the charges before being released on bail.

Prosecution informed magistrate James Kareemani that on January 20, 2016, Nantongo gave false information to a police officer Dennis Odur attached to Central Police Station that  Kibuuka threatened her to cause her harm while knowing that the information was false. 

 
Prosecution further said that on January 25, 2015, both Nantongo and Wesaali held a press conference and published defamatory statements alleging that Kibuuka had threatened her well knowing that the information they were publishing was false and aimed at destroying the priest. 
 
Nantongo had been appearing the media alleging that Kibuuka made sexual advances towards her.
