Mabirizi meeting over elections flops

Feb 29, 2016

Mabirizi has deferred his meeting to Tuesday in Makerere where he will share his views with his supporters about the concluded presidential elections

Meeting called on Monday afternoon by the former presidential candidate Elton Joseph Mabirizi to give his opinion about the concluded presidential elections failed to take off.

This was after Mabirizi who ran on The Independents Coalition (TIC) ticket failed to turn up at Wakulukuku Stadium where the meeting was to take place.

When contacted by New Vision on phone at around 5PM at the said venue, he insisted that he was on his way for the meeting.

Shortly after, he informed the media that he had an engagement with the police over his planned meeting, saying that it was illegal and contradicted the Public Order management Act.

"I was summoned by the police few minutes prior to the meeting; they told me that they had reliable information that I was going to protest the 2016 election results. I told them that it was not true but I was going to meet my supporters" Mabirizi explained.

Meanwhile at the venue, apart from the children who were playing football at the pitch, there were no indicators of any planned event to take place.

There was no police deployment at the venue nor his purported supporters he was going to address.

Mabirizi has now deferred his meeting to Tuesday at Grand Global Hotel located at Makerere in Kampala where he will share his views with his supporters about the concluded presidential elections.

According to the results released by the chairman of the Electoral Commission Eng. Badru Kiggundu, Mabirizi finished eighth of the eight presidential candidates who participated in the elections.

President Yoweri Museveni was comfortably declared the winner with 60% of the votes followed by Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate Col. Kizza Besigye.
