Feb 26, 2016

"We want to make the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally one of the best organised events in Africa."

Leadership and stakeholders' capacity-building through training workshops will be on the forefront of the Dusman Okee-led Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) executive in the first year of his four-year term of office.

Okee disclosed this during his first press briefing as a president of FMU at Lugogo National Council of Sports.

"We have to work as team and that can only be possible if we are all informed about our roles and also rules and regulations governing the sport," he said.

"Therefore we shall conduct several training workshops for the marshals, my committee teams, drivers and the media so that we work as a team in developing the sport."

He also explained that the federation will embark on rejuvenating the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally because it is the biggest asset the federation has.

"We are going to start planning on how to make the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally one of the best organised events on the continent as we were three years back," said Okee.

As an executive, they lobby for more foreign drivers compete in the Pearl rally and also focus on creating the East Africa rally championship.

Okee said his team will focus much on accountability and transparency to be able to keep the current sponsors and also attract more others to the sport.
