Minister Otafiire trailing rival in Ruhinda MP race

Otafiire said he will accept the results depending on the way the Electoral Commission conducts the elections

The minister for justice and constitutional affairs Gen Kahinda Otafiire is trailing in the Ruhinda North constituency with his archrival retired Capt. Dononzio Kahonda leading.

In majority of polling stations, Kahonda was leading with a big margin compared to Otafiire's results. At Mitooma district headquarters, Kahonda garnered 298 while Otafiire got 135, at Nyakishwojwa Kahonda polled 319 against Otafiire's 54.

Voters at Rwakahimbi primary school gave Kahonda 148 while Otafiire received 109. At Kirera, Otafiire beat Kahonda with 212 votes while Kahonda got 186.

At Kikunyu Otafiire also won with 262 votes against Kahonda's 161.  At Kichwamba, Kahonda garnered 231 against Otafiire's 128 while at Rusasi Kahonda scored 144 votes against Otafiire's 28.

At Rurehe Primary School, Kahonda got 248 votes while Otafiire took 97 and at Buharambo, Kahonda scored 261 compared to Otafiire's 74. At Nyaruzinga, Otafiire received 126, Kahonda 168. At Kaganga Primary School, Kahonda polled 271 against Otafiire's 137.

Earlier, addressing journalists at Kashenshero market where he cast his vote, Otafiire said he will accept the results depending on the way the Electoral Commission conducts the elections. He attacked the commission for not fulfilling what they agreed upon with the candidates.

"We agreed to use markers; where are they?" Otafiire was heard charging at the electoral presiding officials.

Kahonda cast his vote at Kabira sub county headquarters in the company of his wife.

Kahonda defeated Otafiire in the NRM primaries while he (Kahonda) was in prison. He is still facing charges of joining the army using fake academic papers.

In Bushenyi district, the security minister Mary Karooro Okurut was leading on the district's woman MP seat. In Bushenyi/Ishaka municipality the incumbent Odo Tayebwa of FDC was trailing against Arinda Gordon Cowboy of NRM who is in the lead.

In Igara East, the incumbent Micheal Mawanda who lost in the NRM primaries and stood on an independent ticket was leading in the majority of polling stations against NRM's Martial Andrew while in Igara West the incumbent Raphael Magezi was trailing against his rival Horas.

In Buhweju district, FDC's Francis Mwijukye and Olive Koyekyenga (independent) were in the lead against NRM's flag bearers Ephraim Biraaro and Alison Byamukama.

In Sheema district, the Sheema North MP who is also the minister of health Dr Elioda Tumwesigye and minister for water and environment Prof Ephraim Kamuntu (Sheema South) were still leading while the district woman MP was too close to call between the incumbent Rosemary Nyakikongoro and Jacklet Rwabukurukuru (independent).
