Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has called upon Ugandans to participate in Thursday's voting exercise countrywide because it is a constitutional right.

He pointed out that it's everybody's responsibility to elect their own political leaders as they wish. He warned the voters not to accept the bribes from political leaders emphasizing that it's the root cause of moral decay.

"When you sell your vote for money you never get anything valuable apart from missing out on getting the good leaders you want," he said.

Lwanga said this while addressing hundreds of pilgrims on Wednesday at Kigungu landing site during the celebration of 137 years since the first Catholic Missionaries, Fr Simeon Lourdel and Brother Delmas Amans, commonly known locally as Mapeera and Amansi respectively came to Uganda in 1879.

At the same function Lwanga announced Munyonyo Martyrs Shrine, St Pius Masajja, Bukalango Mt. Sion Center, Queen of Mary Shrine Kiwamirembe and Bujjuko along Mityana Road as the new parishes in Kampala Archdiocese.

The Bishop of Kiyinda-Mityana diocese, Dr Joseph Anthony Zziwa who led mass advised the congregation to pray for peace during the current and post-election period.

"The Pope's visit brings peace and good image to our country lets continue keeping it in elections and after elections so that we continue developing our country.

"Let's not tarnish the good image our country received during Pope Francis' visit at this last hour of elections" Zziwa said.

The mass was graced by Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala, Bishop of Masaka Diocese, John Baptist Kaggwa, Bishop of Lugazi, Christopher Kakooza, vicar general of Kampala, Msgr Charles Kasibante, Msgr Charles Kimbowa and several priests including missionary priests from different dioceses in Uganda.
