The state minister disaster preparedness and refugees has refuted claims peddled by some people that the food that Police confiscated in Katakwi district was meant for wooing voters.

Musa Ecweru said: "The relief food was sent for people whose food crops were damaged by floods but not for political purposes."

Ecweru said more food is on the way for people of Teso whose crops were damaged by floods that affected most places in Teso citing Katakwi, Amuria, Bukedea, and Serere among other places in Teso sub-region.

Meanwhile, the district councillor representing the people of Usuk Sub-county, Simon Peter Ojaman said some politicians are  taking advantage of Government donations to solicit for votes from people.

He believes such relief items would have been brought before the peak of the campaigns.

Ojaman encouraged people to receive the food saying it's the government's responsibility to support those in need.
