Lawrence Kiyingi alias King Lawrence, a Ugandan based in South Africa was arrested in South Africa for alleged fraud.

The city socialite was arrested with other Ugandans on Tuesday after being trailed by Police in a special operation.

According to close sources, a member of the Rich gang has been on a South African wanted list for quite some time.

"Kiyingi and his friends have been duping people through fake online companies. When a person pays for a deal, the company closes immediately, this time they duped the government over one hundred million," said a close friend to the family.

Speaking to Bukedde newspaper, Ivan Ssemwanga, the founder of rich gang and a relative to Kiyinji said that when his brother learnt that police was looking for him, he decided to take himself to police.

"He was not arrested. He took himself to Police when he got to know that Police was looking for him," noted Ssemwanga.

Every December, King Lawrence and Ssemwanga compete to show off how they live big and their financial muscle by splashing dollars to their fans and musicians in clubs.

When asked where he gets his money, Kiyingi said that he has investments like schools in South Africa.

The head of Interpol in Uganda, Asan Kasingye told New Vision he heard about the arrest.

"I heard someone talking about it but I am yet to get the details. By tomorrow I will have the information," said Kasingye.

The South African Embassy in Uganda is not aware of his arrest.
