A police manhunt is underway for a woman who squeezed the life out of her stepdaughter, before conniving with her husband to secretly dispose of the body.
Police in Kibibi, Butambala district, got wind of the incident when a concerned resident alerted them that the body of a young girl, Rachael Kagere, 8, was being buried in secrecy.
The primary two pupil of Gombe Preparatory had been to her stepmother's place for her holidays.
Police, led by DPC Ben Igama arrested Tonny Lukenge, the girl's father, together with his elder son, Godfrey Ssuuna, just as they were about to bury the child.
The stepmother, Sarah Wanyana, believed to be the main suspect in the murder, is believed to be hiding in areas of Busega.
A postmortem report from Gombe hospital showed the little girl had her neck twisted.

The little girl died on arrival at hospital where the father had rushed her. They then attempted to bury her hurriedly before the Police was alerted.
The CID boss Butambala district, Sulaiman Mukooli, said a manhunt was underway for Wanyana.
