Mbabazi who is contesting for presidency as an independent, defected in August last year complaining of unfair rules in the party

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Amelia Kyambadde has said that the former Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi is responsible for the mess in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

"We have been working together in the system for the last 30 years, and I get surprised if he says it is rotten. He was the party Secretary General and Prime Minister, which means he was a key player on every issue of the party and government business," she said.

Amelia made the remarks while addressing a rally in Senene village, Maziba Parish, Mpigi Town Council over the weekend.

She noted that if the system is rotten as Mbabazi alleges, then he (Mbabazi) is to blame rot, and should blame himself for failure to make things right.

Mbabazi who is contesting for presidency as an independent, defected in August last year complaining of unfair rules, after he was allegedly blocked from picking nomination forms to compete against President Yoweri Museveni in the party primaries.

He later decided to run as an independent through his pressure group, Go-Forward.

"It is not fair for Mbabazi to make such a statement after leaving the party. Why didn't he say it before leaving since he was in charge? People should remain focused not be divided over such statements and vote the right leaders," she added.

Others in the race are President Museveni (NRM), Dr. Col. Kizza Besigye (Forum for Democratic Change), Dr. Abed Bwanika (People's Development Party), and independents; retired Maj Gen. Ben Biraro, Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba, Maureen Kyalya and Joseph Mabirizi.

Uganda is slated to hold her general elections on February 18.
