Rising golf star Hafswa Namusoke seeks sponsor

Jan 13, 2016

Hafswa Namusoke’s dream of advancing her career as a golfer can only blossom if she gets a sponsor.

She has won several events and accolades since beginning out as a caddy in 2009 and finally taking on the game of golf thereafter.

But Hafswa Namusoke's dream of advancing her career as a golfer can only blossom if she gets a sponsor for the different tournaments across the country.

The 17 year old S.3 student, who once played tag rugby and basketball before she took to the greens is hoping, a Good Samaritan can come to her rescue so that her dream as an accomplished golfer can be realized.

"Much as my participation in events has not been bad, there are challenges I face like getting golf balls, tees, entry fees, and transport to the different events, among others," said Namusoke, a St. Pauls's College student in Fort Portal lamented.

Toro Golf Club lady captain, Jill Pinda Birungi and other members of Toro Club helped the youngster start out in 2009 before she got her first trophy (subsidiary category)at the Dasani golf qualifiers held at Toro Club in 2013.

The following year she had already shown improvement taking the runners up ladies Group B prize during the Mayombo Open before she won her first Group B tournament during an Independence tournament held at the club.

The same year (2014) she claimed her first junior trophy during the Uganda Ladies Open in Kampala before she took second spot again (Group B) in the Mukwano tournament at Toro Club later that year.

In January 2015 she won the girls category of the national junior tournament held at Entebbe Club and has since then struggled to compete at different tournaments though once in a while she is bailed out by the Lady President.

Her biggest challenge is raising entry fees, transport and accommodation especially for upcountry tournaments outside her home club (Toro).
