Parliament ejects journalists without degrees

Jan 13, 2016

The degree requirement will enable journalists report accurately when covering both committees and plenary sessions

If you don't have a degree, please pack your pen and notebook in a bag and leave the Parliamentary press galley.

According to a letter to editors of various media houses in the country, Okello Obabaru, the deputy clerk to Parliament argues that the degree requirement will enable journalists report accurately when covering both committees and plenary sessions.

"A Journalist designated by a media house to cover Parliament is required to demonstrate that he/she has a Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communication or related fields and has practiced Journalism for at least 3 years," states the letter written on January 11.
