NDA gets new boss

Donna Kusemererwa is the new Executive Director for the Authority.

The National Drug Authority Board of Directors has appointed Donna Kusemererwa as the new Executive Director for the Authority.

Kusemererwa was the best candidate after a one-year search. She replaces Gordon Ssematiko who allegedly abused office.

According to the Fredrick Ssekyana, the spokesperson of NDA, Kusemererwa starts work on January 7th.

 "NDA will benefit from her managerial experience," he said.

Previously, the new ED served as the Executive director of Joint medical store; she has also worked as a lecturer of toxicology and forensic pharmacy at Makerere University.

She is a pharmacist by training with advanced degrees in pharmacy and business administration. She is an active member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda.

Kusemererwa says one of her immediate tasks is to change the image of the drugs authority which is has been dented by corruption related allegations.

According to Kusemererwa, lack of proper accountability and poor management has been one of the biggest challenges the authority is dealing with.

Addressing staff members today at the office headquarters on Lumumba Avenue, Mark Kamanzi, the NDA chairman of board assured staff members that they will not lose their jobs like how it has been happening in other institutions.

"If you have accounted for your 2015 budgets, do not be scared, you will not lose your job," said Kamanzi.
