The incident occurred in Kalisizo town.

A man in Rakai district left residents in shock after he allegedly poisoned his five children and cut off his genitals.

The incident occurred in Kalisizo town.

The children have been identified as Denis Ssenoga, 2, Alice Nabango, 4, Patrick Walusimbi, 5, Bulasio Lubwama, 7 and David Ntege, 17.

They are born from three mothers.

Sam Lubuulwa, 43 and his children are now admitted at Kalisizo Hospital.

While the children are receiving treatment at the children's ward, Lubulwa is getting his on hand cuffs to prevent him from escaping.

Dr. Roseo Muhangi, the assistant district health officer, said apart from the two-year-old Ssenoga, who is still in intensive care, the rest of the children are steadily recovering.

It is said Lubuulwa, a night watchman at Nninzi Co-operative Union, has been looking after the five children after their mothers abandoned them at his home.

Lubuulwa said he wanted to rid them of suffering. His neighbours said he cut off his genitals thinking his children had died.

He said he has worked at Nninzi Cooperative Union for over five months without pay, which worsened the situation.

David Ntege, one of the survivors, said Lubuulwa wrestled him down and then put what he suspects to be poison in his (Ntege's) mouth.

According to Regina Nansamba, the officer in charge of crime at Kalisizo Police station, Lubuulwa was unconscious and bleeding profusely at the time they reached his home.

She said they also found the children in critical condition. Nansamba said Lubuulwa faces charges of attempted murder and attempted suicide.

When contacted about the alleged salary arrears, Ssansa Mutagejja, the Nninzi Co-operative Union manager, said they owe Lubuulwa only the December salary.
