Mulago registers more accident cases ahead of festive season

According to hospital records, last month they registered 242 cases due to boda bodas, while 82 cases were caused by motor vehicles.

Mulago National Referral hospital is registering more cases of accidents ahead of the festive season.

On a daily basis the hospital receives 30 cases.

The hospital authorities said most of the cases are boda boda related.

Speaking in an interview at Mulago, the hospital's public relations officer Enock Kusasira said during the festive season, the number of accidents tends to increase because people drive recklessly.

According to hospital records, last month they registered 242 cases due to boda bodas, while 82 cases were caused by motor vehicles.

In September 204 Boda-Boda accidents were recorded while in August 494 cases were registered.

Kusasira said the hospital's emergency and accidents ward is ready to handle the cases since it is open 24 hours.

"If people can avoid over speeding and other forms of indiscipline on the road the money treating  accident victims could be used for other things, "Kusasira said.

New Vision talked to some of the victims admitted at the surgical ward; 2B and they had this to say;
Julius Bamweyise 25 was knocked down by a speeding car in Busega. According to his relative the accident took place at 9.00pm.

He sustained head injuries and is unconscious, and underwent a brain CT-Scan.

Saudha Namubiru, a resident of Kyebando, is another accident victim. She sustained severe injuries after she was involved in a serious accident in Luwero district.

Her caretaker said her condition keeps worsening by the day.

Kusasira however noted that cases of  assault have gone down compared to the past where the hospital could receive a big number of victims.

The hospital record shows that on a daily basis they receive one to two cases compared to the past were eight cases were registered.
