Good Samaritan Nineteen sisters take vows

Four novitiates and fourteen other Catholic sisters of the Order of Good Samaritans on Tuesday made their first and perpetual vows respectively during a holy mass led by the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Dr Cyprian Kizito-Lwanga.
    

During the same mass, eleven nuns of the same congregation celebrated their silver jubilee since they joined the Order that undertakes to help the disabled as well as the elderly people at their Nalukolongo Home in Kampala and four their final professional (last vows).
    

The novitiates included Jane Nakayemba (Bisanje Parish in Masaka diocese); Christine Namara (Butare Parish in Mbarara Archdiocese); Mildred Abitegeka (Bujumbura Cathedral Parish in Hoima diocese) and Winifred Mbabazi (Mbarara Archdiocese).

The sisters who made perpetual vows included: Maria Florence Kaahwa Abooki ( Bujuni Parish in Hoima Diocese); Maria Proscovia Nantongo (Bweyogerere Parish in Kampala Archdiocese); Mary Annet Mugisa Adyeeri (Kitoba Parish in Hoima) and Maria Christine Norah Nambalirwa (Busubizi Parish in Kiyinda-Mityana diocese).
       

The silver jubilee celebrants included Sisters Maria Constancia Nakiganda (Mitala-Maria Parish in Kampala Archdiocese); Agnes Tushemereirwe (Kagadi Parish in Hoima diocese); Mary Cleophas Nyamahunge (Kabeedi Parish in Hoima); Maria Anatoli Gertude Nantale (Ggoli Paish in Kampala Archdiocese); and Maria Yasinta Mugala (Mulajje Parish in Kasana-Luweero Diocese).


Others were; Theresa of Avilla  Basemerera Amooti (Hapuuyo in Fort-Portal diocese); Mary Josephine Bosenibo (Mutolere Parish in Kabale diocese); Annet Aylvia Namukasa ( Buseesa Parish in Hoima); Mary Jane Frances Namusisi (Mitala-Maria Parish in Kampala Archdiocese); Maria Immaculate Lucia Nabukeera Ateenyi ( Kasambya Parish in Hoima) and Maria Proscovia Nabakooza (Bisanje in Masaka diocese).

During his homily, Archbishop Lwanga urged the sisters to adhere to their vows, reminding them that their decision meant following Jesus Christ and keeping holiness.


He said that Emmanuel Cardinal Nsubuga the Good Samaritan sisters to restore a sense of belonging, love and hope to people with special needs and the elderly who have been abandoned.


"Like Pope Francis said, the religious need to re-discover themselves, engage the present with passion, the future with Christ and show God's image by their deeds that they would have opened their gates to the world which is yearning for God's love." Lwanga reminded them.

   
He reminded the congregation that the late Emmanuel Cardinal Nsubuga Kiwanuka, who started the home of Good Samaritan Sisters 34 years following the ten acts of the Good Samaritan who cared for the needy.


He said as the Pope launches the year of mercy Good Samaritan sisters stand higher chances of depicting the true sense of mercy which lies in the vision of the founder of the Good Samaritan Sisters, the late Emmanuel Cardinal Nsubuga in 1978.


Meanwhile the chancellor Fr. Joseph Ssebunya announced that the raffle for "Yooyoota Namugongo" has been extended until of March 30 next year when the final draw is expected to take place where the Archbishop's ML 200 Mercedes Benz will be given out to the lucky winner.


The function was attended by the Good Samaritan mother general Sr.Mathew Nakalema; Auxiliary Bishop of Mbarara Lambert Bainomugisha; Bishops John Baptist Kaggwa, Matthias Ssekamanya (retired bishop of Lugazi), several priests and Monsignors from different diocesese and parishes; Deputy Governor of Bank of Uganda Dr. Luis Kasekende among others.
