Wakiso: NRM''s Nsubuga and FDC''s Kyeyune nominated

WAKISO district nominated Jonah Nsubuga as the NRM flag bearer and Umar Kyeyune for the opposition FDC to contest for the district''s top seat in the 2016 general election.

WAKISO district on Monday nominated Jonah Nsubuga as the flag bearer of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and Umar Kyeyune the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to contest for the district's top seat in the 2016 general election.

 

The ceremony, presided by the district's Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) boss Hajjat Sarah Bukirwa saw only two contestants being duly nominated for the district's top position.

 

Despite the early morning drizzle, supporters of the contestants braved the scare and turned up in large numbers chanting and singing their respective parties' slogans.

 

Clad in their party colors the enthusiastic fans led processions through parts of the district demonstrating love to their candidates and the party.

 

In his address to people in Wakiso following his nomination, Nsubuga said he is looking forward to helping people of Wakiso take off to prosperity.

"I have come to root out poverty from the district, stop the rampant land evictions and spread the Operation Wealth Creation," Nsubuga boasted.

 

Kyeyune took the populist tone promising Wakiso residents of all walks of life real change, road network, jobs, quality healthcare, education, and responsive leadership.

 

"The people of Wakiso have been undone the poor road network, this is where I will put emphasis during my year term of office," he said.

 

Over 250 district direct councilors have also been duly nominated after fulfilling the requirements for a district councilor aspirant.

 

According the district IEC boss Hajjat Bukirwa the process was smooth with all contestants fulfilling the requirements.

 

"On day one, we have not experienced any obstacle as all the nominees were well equipped and have cleared all the financial and other requirements," she explained.

 

Proscovia Nannozi (DP) contesting for direct woman councilor Gombe and Busukuma sub counties pledged good representation and service delivery.
