Up to 100 feared killed, France declares emergency

Up to 100 people were feared killed in attacks in Paris, French media reported on Friday. Three suspected jihadists were killed when police stormed the venue, the sources said.

PARIS, Nov 13 (Reuters) - Around 100 people were killed in an attack on the Bataclan concert venue in Paris on Friday night, police sources said.

There was earlier a hostage situation at a concert hall in the French capital. Police raided the venue.
 
Several explosions were heard earlier near a stadium where a friendly France-Germany soccer match was being held, attended by President Francois Hollande.
 
Later, Hollande announced a state of emergency, and ordered French borders to be closed.
 
Police helicopters circled the stadium north of Paris as Hollande rushed back to the interior ministry to deal with the situation.
 
Police confirmed there had been shootings and explosions at the stadium, but not the number of casualties.

Witnesses said police closed down a neighborhood in central Paris where media said gunmen had fired in a restaurant, causing multiple casualties.
 
"I was on my way to my sister's when I heard shots being fired. Then I saw three people dead on the ground, I know they were dead because they were being wrapped up in plastic bags," student Fabien Baron told Reuters.
 
President Barack Obama was briefed by Lisa Monaco, his assistant for homeland security and counterterrorism, a White House official said.
