Uganda will open its bid to regain dominance of the East and Central Africa Football Championship (CECAFA) with a repeat of the 2008 and 2012 finals between the Cranes and Kenya’s Harambee Stars on Sunday November 22.

The 38th edition will run from November 21 to December 6, 2015.

The Championship rolls off in the Ethiopian city of Addis Ababa and the Uganda-Kenya Group B fixture of traditional rivals  on the second day should be able to set off a tempo for the two-week competition.

The competition which is the biggest and considered the oldest football tournament in Africa has attracted all the 11 member countries and Malawi as a guest team.

Uganda Cranes team is presently in Lome to face Togo in the 2018 World Cup qualifier fixture but a group of players stayed behind under the guidance of coach Frank Anyau to train for the championship.

The tournament resumes this year after the 2014 failed as Ethiopia withdrew from hosting it at the last minute citing lack of funds to organise it.

Kenya are the defending champions having won the tournament in 2013 when they defeated Sudan 2-0 in Nairobi.

Uganda is the record winners of the tournament having won it 13 times.

Other countries in the competition include Tanzania, Burundi, Somalia, Rwanda, Djibouti, Zanzibar, Sudan, Eritrea and Ethiopia.
