Top seed Christine Alupo and Peace Busigye (second seed) won the 2015 Castle Lite Volleyball Championship to book slots to defend their international championships crown due at Lido beach next month.

It was an easy afternoon as the pair tamed Sharon Pajije and Vivian Adeke in straight sets 21-17 21-15 in the final.

“We won but I must concede that we did not face serious competition from the opponents. The final was relatively easier. We over powered our opponents with our stronger services,” Busingye said after their victory.

Alupo and Busingye remain top seeds while Pajije and Adeke are in the third position on the national ranking.

In the men’s category Emma Kato pairing with Nicholas Dheyongera needed a decisive set to overcome hitherto defending champions Dickens Otim and Isaac Omedo to win their season second silverware 21-23, 21-14, 16-14.

Otim and Omedo’s approach to save Kato and avoid Dheyongera backfired in the decisive set when the former set the balls for the former to perfectly make the points for them to take the day.

Omedo blamed the result on ‘bad day’ for them and ‘luck’ on the side of their opponents.

“We failed to do the ordinary things that we normally did perfectly,” Omedo said in reference to an incident where he collided with Otim to set the ball and another one where he served a crucial ball out.
