“But this time I am more focused on getting the African title. I need to prove that this time I want to make sure that i am still the best player,” vowed Gumikiriza who fell to Amos Ndyagumanawe in the at Lugogo last Saturday.

Both players are part of the Ugandan five-man team that departed for Maseru for the four-day Africa Championship that concludes on Monday.

Seed four Ndyagumanawe also promised not to “move backwards” in a search for the continental championship.

The Ugandan team captained by Oscar Ocakacon that has been training for the past one month includes Fahad Ssewankambo and Sula Matovu.

The Lesotho event offers Uganda a second appearance at the continental stage. Ugandan bagged a silver medal in Tanzania last year when the She Cranes Pool team came second to South Africa.

Uganda will have a challenge against defending champions are South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Malawi and hosts Lesotho.
