Whoever lost in the NRM primaries and is planning to run as an independent, will cease to be a member of the party, the Secretary General has said.

Without specifying an article in the party constitution, Justine Kasule Lumumba, explained that all party members are aware of the article on running as independents.

Addressing a news conference on Thursday at the party headquarters in Kampala, Lumumba, said the tension exhibited in the concluded NRM primaries was a clear indication that NRM is the biggest party and many want to ally with it.

Asked to comment on some irregularities cited in the party polls, Lumumba said: “I am waiting for a report from the NRM EC. Then I will make a report. I have not made any observations on the NRM primaries.”

She said the Party flag bearer will launch 2016 presidential election bid in Luweero, a  historical triangle where he pitched camp between 1981 to 1986, to launch the protracted bush guerrilla war struggle that brought the ruling NRM into power.

“Whenever we have our campaigns, we begin in Luweero. That has been the procedure and we intend to continue with it,” Lumumba explained.

Museveni will on November 5 launch the NRM manifesto. The president will be nominated by the National Independent Electoral Commission on November 3 and thereafter address a public rally at Kololo Independence grounds.
