Vision Group on Sunday received a total of sh14m from different praying groups for the Pope Walk that is scheduled for Saturday.

The chief executive officer of Vision Group, Robert Kabushenga, received the money from the churches where he had been invited.

The bulk of the harvest was received from the Catholics in Kampala, who hail from the Archdiocese of Mbarara, in the Ankole region. They congregate under the Archdiocese of Mbarara Development Association (AMDA). AMDA contributed sh7.5m for the walk. The money was handed over to Kabushenga by their chaplain Fr. Darius Magunda during their monthly mass at Kitante Primary School in Kampala. AMDA will field over 700 walkers and is, so far, the largest congregation walking on Saturday.

Kabushenga was grateful for the generosity and urged the AMDA members to keep time on Saturday.

The chairman of AMDA Dr. Gaston Ampe, said: “For issues concerning the Pope, Catholics are very willing to contribute. I am sure very many will buy the rosaries.”

On the same day, 31 people paid sh3.1m to book for rosaries. Kabushenga said the special edition rosaries from Rome have already been blessed and are expected in the country on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, Kabushenga started his day at Gayaza Parish, where the Christians gave him sh3m for the walk. The parish priest, Fr. Fred Makanga urged the people to give generously in order to build the church. Kabushenga proceeded to Kiwatule, where the Christians of St. Mbaga Tuzinde bought tickets worth sh1.8m. The rest of the money was collected from Christ the King Church and Rubaga Cathedral.
