Retired captain, Mugabe Dononzio Kahonda, Member of Parliament (MP) aspirant for Ruhinda County, Mitooma district has been arrested over alleged forgery of academic papers.

Dononzio is vying for Ruhinda County MP seat with Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister Otafiire Kahinda, both NRM contestants and Brian Ainembaba (Independent).

He was arrested on Wednesday and detained at Kibuli CIID headquarters.

This morning his case file was transferred to Jinja Road Police Station.

By press time he was being taken to the Chief Magistrate's Court at Jinja for plea taking.

The police have preferred charges of uttering false document and forgery against the MP aspirant.

Tanga Odio, the NRM Electrol Commission chairperson recently nominated aspirants vying for election as party candidates with Dononzio among them after discovering that their academic papers were genuine.

Meanwhile, Ainembabazi said that Dononzio’s  arrest was not in accordance with the law because it denies him the right to contest in the year 2016 elections as NRM party candidate.

"Since he was nominated by Odio, then this means that his academic papers were not forged as alleged," he said.
