Singer Kusasira dragged to police over 8m debt

 Singer Catherine Kusasira has been dragged to police for failure to clear a debt of sh8m.

The Golden Production band member was dragged to Katwe police station by a city businessman, Edmond Ndawula after Kusasira started threatening him due to constant reminders to clear the debt.

 "After failing to repay my money, Kusasira started threatening me saying that I should back off if I still want my life," Ndawula said in his statement.

Ndawula, a resident of Luwafu-Makindye Division, Kampala, told police that in 2011, he contracted and paid Kusasira sh800, 000 to perform at his wedding in October 2011, but she did not turn up.

"After the event, I asked her why she never showed up at the party, she told me that she was sick but promised to refund my money, which she has failed to fulfill to date," he added.

Ndawula, a dealer in spare parts around Kiseka market, wants police to prevail on Kusasira to refund his money including the costs he has incurred since 2011.

Benon Ayebare, the OC CIID Katwe police station, confirmed the charge and said that they have given her a one-week ultimatum to report to police and clarify the outstanding charge.

 "We have already served her with the notification to report to police and give her side before matters proceed to court," Ayebare said.

However, when we contacted Kusasira, she denied the allegations, saying she refunded Ndawula's money in 2012.

 "I paid him and do not owe him any coin. I am surprised that he dragged me to police," Kusasira said on phone.

Recently, Kusasira spent two days in Kigo prison over the allegations of defaulting sh1m from the Fusion Band member, Iryn Namubiru, which she (Namubiru) was supposed to give to the songwriter Lyto Boss.
 
She was later dragged to Entebbe Court, where she was given bail.
