Police Saturday deployed massively in various spots in Kampala in light of reports of a group said to be plotting to chaos mayhem.

The police chief Gen. Kale Kayihura said the police had received information of plans by a criminal-minded group to cause chaos in the capital.

“They plan to attack police and burn police vehicles, vandalize and loot property, burn petrol stations along highways leading into and out of Kampala and block traffic and attack,” said the police boss.

In his statement issued on Friday, Kayihura cautioned members of public about this group and also assured the country that security had taken effective measures to ensure that business life in and out of the city is normal and secure.

He, however, warned the ringleaders of the group to stop whatever they intended to do.

“We are closely following your criminal activities and you will have yourselves to blame when the law catches up with you.”

Scores of police personnel were seen deployed around the city center and in the outskirts.

The counter terrorism police unit was monitoring entrances to entertainment areas and a security meeting with senior police officers and other sister security agencies about security regarding the “criminal-minded group”.

A number of police mobile communication and surveillance vans fitted with long range visual cameras were stationed in various spots surrounding the city and outside as security officers keenly monitored business in Kampala.

A top police detective said: “In light of terror threats, we don’t want to take chances. We have our forces and equipment for operational and emergency response ready to ensure that everyone is safe.”
