Underdogs Pirates and Sadolin Mongers in the Uganda Cup Rugby tournament quarter finals shocked their opponents Rhinos and Buffaloes with 10-6 and 26-19 victories, respectively on Saturday.

Pirates kept Rhinos at bay in the second half to go on and register a win and set up semifinal clash against traditional rivals Hima Cement Heathens.

Richard Odokerere and Isaac Rujumba scored Pirates’ two tries in a tightly contested encounter that lived to its billing as Rhinos coach Herbert Wafula failed to tame his former employers Pirates.

Pirates coach Anthony Kinene congratulated his boys for the good fight and urged them to do the same against Heathens.

"The boys were focused and I urge them to stay focused against Heathens because this is chance to avenge last year's defeat.”

Pirates will look to turn around their past misfortunes against Heathens who beat them 23-12 last year in the quarterfinals of the same tournament.

Conceding defeat, Rhinos coach Herbert Wafula said: "We didn't play well. We dominated the game but failed to execute.

"We wish them the best against Heathens, but for us we have now to focus on the league which is bound to start in NovembeR.”

In Entebbe, Adrian Wasswa managed a try and seven penalties to inspire Sadolin Mongers to a 26-19 win over Buffaloes.

Sadolin Mongers will now face Kobs who smashed Mutoni Warriors 34-6 in the semifinal.
