A 23-year- old Indian woman who allegedly jumped from Callington building in the city center last Thursday was in preparation of her wedding.

Sharita Lutar, a daughter to Hally Lutar jumped from the third floor of Callington building located on Kiyembe lane in Kampala. She was rushed to Norvik hospital along Bombo road but died upon arrival.

A relative told New Vision that Sharita, a first born of three who had just graduated, got engaged last year and was staying with her parents, waiting to get married to start staying with the husband.

“It is a big loss to our family that is why my parents cannot talk to anyone because they are still in shock. My sister was excited about her wedding scheduled for next year,” said Paris Kuma, a brother.

Kuma says that in their culture, a girl stays with her parents until she is married that is why at the time of her death, she was home helping her parents.

The events that led to Sharita’s death are baffling, but her brother Kuma strongly says it was not suicide.

“We have read in papers that our daughter committed suicide. That is a lie. Sharita slipped off the balcony as she was answering to a phone call. Most of the residents here (building) usually make or receive phone calls from that place because of the bad network, it was unfortunate that during the call, God called her," said Paris Kuma, a brother.

According to the post mortem from Mulago Hospital, Sharita died of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.
Her body was cremated on Thursday.

Addressing journalists at the Police headquarters in Naguru , Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said the police is investigating allegations of a love gone sour that prompted the deceased (Sharita) to commit suicide.

He was addressing journalist at the Naguru Police headquarters in Naguru, Nakawa division, Kampala.

Incidents of youth jumping to their death from city buildings are on the increase. Mulago hospital and Workers House have had the highest suicide incidents.
