The cash-strapped national motocross team has been bailed out by Gen.Salim Saleh, enabling them to travel by plane to Zimbabwe for the FIM Africa Championship on Saturday and Sunday.

The 27-man team was meant to travel by road due to financial constraints but Gen. Saleh came to their rescue by footing the bill for air tickets.

Saleh thanked the riders for the patriotism they have exhibited and pledged continued support.

"It is very good having national representatives even at the age of 6-years. We shall continue supporting you," Saleh stated.

"We have catered for the federation needs and I wish you success in Zimbabwe," Saleh added.

He also advised riders to observe safety while riding because the sport is exciting and can lead to one getting carried out.

Team captain Maxime Van Pee is confident his charges will give Uganda a podium finish in the FIM Africa Motocross Championship.

"This is the biggest team Uganda has ever taken for this event and I believe we shall have a podium finish but our target is to win the event," Maxime stated.

Maxime wants to win a gold in the individual categories of the MX1 championship and he will battle other champions including Kenya's Ivan Guya.
