Elgon Cup return leg in Nairobi

The Rugby Cranes technical bench will today focus on probable replacements for team captain Brian Odongo and flanker Marvin Odongo in Saturday’s second leg of the Elgon Cup in Nairobi.

The two picked up injuries in the 21-14 defeat of Kenya in the first leg of the Elgon Cup at Kyadondo Rugby Club last Saturday.

Marvin Odongo was substituted after sustaining an arm injury while prop Brian Odongo sustained an ankle injury on his right foot.

Medical assessment

The duo will this evening be assessed by Dr. Joseph Kalanzi who will either clear them or stop them from being part of the Saturday showdown.

“We are handling their injuries and their situation is not too bad but I will be in position to give you the final word by tomorrow evening,” Dr. Kalanzi said.

Meanwhile, coaches Peter Magona, Herbert Wafula and Fred Mudoola are preparing Ronald Mussajja and Andrew Olwenyi to take up Marvin Odongo’s role in case doctors fail to clear him while Asuman Mugerwa will stand in for the burly Brian Odongo.

Manano ruled out

At the same time under-19 captain Alhajji Manano, who was voted man of the match in the 15-10 defeat of Kenya, has been ruled out of the return leg.

Manano suffered a concussion and has been given a three-week rest by the medical team.

The Rugby Cranes are sponsored by Nile Special, Sheraton Hotel and Rwenzori Water.
