Three bodaboda riders hacked, bikes stolen

JINJA - Three bodaboda rider over the weekend got clobbered and their motorcycles were stolen by yet unknown assailants.

The injured were Godfrey Mugwano, Patrick Takwana both from Nawanyago village and Isaac Kirimuntu, a resident of Naminage in Kamuli district.

The bodaboda riders who operate in Kamuli district had travelled to Jinja for the National Agricultural and Trade show.

The three picked customers from the trade fare grounds but were attacked before reaching their destinations.

Mugwano was hacked in Kikaramoja zone in Walukuba/Masese division; Takwana was attacked at Wanyama road in Bugembe Town Council while Kirimuntu was attacked at Kakira in Kakira Sub County.

The assailants fled with Mugwano’s motorcycle registration number UEB 935F, that of Tikwana registration number UEB 664Q and that of Kirimuntu.

The three sustained cuts on their heads and arms and are admitted in ward 9 of Jinja regional referral hospital.

Swaliki Lwamaza, the chairman of Nawanyago Boda Stage who was at the ward in Jinja hospital said Mugwano and Takwana had come to the agricultural trade fare to make money by transporting show goers.

Anthony Muwanika, a boda rider in Jinja town requested Police to sensitize colleagues particularly those who come from outside Jinja about the black spots where they shouldn’t take customers.

Muwanika added that many of their colleagues have been hacked to death and others left with injuries but assailants are arrested, police releases them without taking them to court.

According to Felix Mugizi, the Officer in Charge Jinja Central Police Station, they had not yet received any complaints of attacks on boda riders in Jinja town.

He added that Jinja Police had also been beefed up with patrol vehicles from Mityana to provide security to show goers by the time of the agricultural show.

Mugizi said suspects are always taken to court and convicted if found guilty.
