MPIGI - Sixteen people survived a grisly accident with severe injuries when two vehicles collided on Masaka Road.

The Monday night accident at Kammengo in Mpigi, occurred when a speeding taxi, registration number UAP 699N, heading to Masaka full of passengers collided with a Mitsubishi Canter, registration number UAL 305.

Witnesses said the Canter driver only identified as Sserubiri did not indicate while branching off the road at Kabira yet there was a speeding taxi coming towards him.

Miraculously the 14 passengers of the taxi and two occupants of the Canter survived, albeit with severe injuries.

Meddie Kizito, the taxi driver had to be plucked off the steering wheel bleeding profusely, but not before the Police cut away metal to rescue him.

Others who were severely injured were; the conductor Sabbit Samuwa, Hajji Njuba Katumba, a resident of Bulo in Butambala, Davis Ssempuuma of Butoolo - Mpigi and Kamoga, a resident of Kaweeri. They were all rushed to Mulago hospital in Kampala.

The Kammengo traffic police boss, Julius Muhoozi, warned of carelessness of drivers on the recently rehabilitated Masaka Road that has lately been a scene of several accidents.
