1. BACKGROUND

Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) is one of the autonomous and strategic institutions of the East African Community (EAC) responsible for promotion of higher education and coordination of regional research programmes. IUCEA derives its mandate from the need to meet developmental aspirations in the EAC Partner States.

IUCEA contributes towards development of higher education and research by facilitating contacts amongst universities in East Africa; providing a forum for discussion of a wide range of academic and other matters relating to higher education and research in the region; working closely with national higher education councils/commissions in the Partner States; and facilitating the attainment of high and comparable higher education academic standards in East Africa
