KASESE - The residents of Kinyamaseke trading centre along the Kasese-Bwera highway were left in shock after discovering that a sub-county chief had killed himself.
George Bwambale’s body was found dangling on a rope inside his business store at the trading centre Thursday afternoon in Kasese district.
The area police, local council chairpersons and the deceased relatives confirmed that the chief had committed suicide.
It was believed that he took his own life at about 3pm local time.
It could not readily be established why Bwambale killed himself, but police said it had launched an investigation into his death.
Popularly known as Kamuzigho, he was serving as the sub-county chief of Kitholhu in Bukonzo West constituency.
Wilson Asaba Mwigha, an assistant Chief Administrative Officer in charge of Bukonzo County, regretted the incident.
He described Bwambale as a hardworking civil servant, and that his death was “unfortunate”.
"We don't know why Kamuzigho had to hang himself. I am trying to source information about the incident,” he said.
A source who was close to Bwambale suspects he might have committed suicide due to financial and family-related problems.
According to the source, the deceased had been arrested recently over the sale of land, after which a friend of his stood surety for him, but that until his death, he had not paid up the money.
