KAMPALA - Joseph Mawejje got a perfect consolation for missing the cut to the national amateur golf team by winning the president's shield golf tournament at Kitante.

Mawejje was one of the twenty golfers who initially qualified to the national team but failed to make it to the final team that is going to represent the country at the Zone 6 championship in South Africa.

The handicap1 golfer carded 39 stable ford points to emerge overall winner of the one-day tournament.

His victory will have him enjoy two nights at the Serena-Dar-es-salaam and a round of golf at the Gymkhana golf club.

Mawejje hit 3 birdies en-route to his 6th major win in his budding career.

Gerald Kabuye, playing off handicap, was the men’s group A winner after returning 37 stable points, with Ancel Tumwesigye (36pts) beating Francis Ngabo on count-back to finish as runner-up.

A weekend-for-two at the Serena Nairobi awaits Morris Ashaba who topped group B with J. Saldanha and Denis Tindyebwa finishing as first and second runner-up respectively.
