MPs want RDCs salaries tripled to sh5m

The Parliament committee on presidential affairs has asked government to consider increasing salaries for Residential District Commissioners .

In a meeting with officials from the President’s office at Parliament, MPs said the salary paid to RDCs and their deputies is not enough to enable them carry out their work diligently.

“The money RDCs are paid is not enough compared to the volume of work they do, we should have it increased to sh5m.

Some of them are very poor they survive on allowances from workshop which keeps them move from one workshop to another,” said Odonga Otto the Aruu county MP.

Currently RDCs are paid between sh1.5m and sh1.4m for deputy residential district commissioners.

The MPs however, asked government to prevail over some RDCs saying their discipline and dressing were still lacking.

“Recently I found some RDC participating in the eviction of some people when, I tried to ask him why they were evicting people, he told me he doesn’t report to me,” said Maj Gen Julius Oketa the UPDF representative in Parliament.

Latif Ssebagala the Kawempe North MP also criticized the way some RDCs dress saying; “some of the RDCs dress like hunters. We need to encourage them to dress like RDCs”.
