Museveni summons NRM top leaders

National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairperson, President Yoweri Museveni has summoned the Central Executive Committee to discuss party issues and also appoint Parliament Commissioners.

National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairperson, President Yoweri Museveni has summoned the Central Executive Committee to discuss party issues and also appoint Parliament Commissioners.


The meeting is underway at State Lodge Nakasero.

The meeting has come at the backdrop of internal reflections within the party with members seeking mechanisms on how to strengthen the ruling party ahead of the 2016 general elections.

So far, three caucus meetings have been held at State House, Entebbe to discuss party issues and other related matters—touching on how to define the political terrain of the party.

CEC received 22 applications for Parliament Commission slots.  

Among the contenders are: Mbarara Municipality MP Yona Musinguzi, Bukedia woman  Rose Akol, Kajara MP county Stephen Tasobya, Hamson Obua (Ajuri county), Milton Muwuma (Kigulu south), Annet Nyakectho (Otuke),  Arinitwe Rwakajara (Workers) Saleh Kamba (Kibuku) James Kakooza (Kabula),  and three incumbent parliamentary commissioners Kinkizi East Dr.Chris Baryomunsi ,Bunyore East Emmanuel Dombo, Masindi district woman Jalia Bintu.

Apart from the President and the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, the other high-profile members of the NRM party highest organ are the Secretary General who is also Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi and Al Hajj Moses Kigongo, who is the first Vice Chairperson of the NRM.

The other members of CEC are: regional Vice Chairpersons Sam Engola (Northern), Abdul Nadduli, (Central) Mike Mukula, (Eastern) Francis Babu (Kampala) and Brig Matayo Kyaligonza (Western). Others: are the Deputy Secretary General Dorothy Hyuha, NRM Treasurer who is also Trade minister Amelia Kyambadde and the deputy Treasurer Singh Parminda Katongole.

It also includes the Entrepreneurship league, represented by Hassan Basajjabalaba and the Veterans league, represented by Rujumbura County MP Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi.

Elsewhere, the Youth representative is Dennis Namara, while the wife to the Prime Minister, Jacqueline Mbabazi takes the Women’s league docket. Kirunda Kivejinja holds the Historicals docket and the Elderly are represented by Fred Mukisa.
